Abella Galleries was conceived in May of 2007 when Elizabeth Rowland was taking a break from her Chinese language studies in Shanghai, China, to travel with a friend in Beijing. While exploring Beijing, she happened to discover a small jewelry booth covered from floor to ceiling with gorgeous, vibrantly colored blue turquoise bead necklaces. Elizabeth immediately fell in love with the beautiful beads and decided that she had to share them with others. In order to do that, she decided to start her own online jewelry shop. Throughout the rest of 2007, Elizabeth traveled across southern China seeking out turquoise manufacturers, spending hours researching U.S. and Chinese trade and customs law, and gradually developing her vision for her future jewelry business. As Elizabeth became increasingly energized by the prospect of becoming an independent jewelry designer and business owner, she realized how much more rewarding it would be to develop her business with the cooperation of other artists. As a result, Elizabeth's idea of selling turquoise jewelry online morphed into a vision of using her website to exhibit not only her own designs, but also the creative works of other artists who might not have the time or resources to develop their own online gallery. Officially launched online in December 2008, Abella Galleries now features Elizabeth's vibrant turquoise and white stone jewelry designs. In the coming months, Abella Galleries hopes to add unique, colored freshwater pearl jewelry designs by Elizabeth as well as the sterling silver jewelry designs of a skilled silversmith based out of Nashville, Tennessee, and the elegant bridal jewelry designs of an artist living in Jacksonville, Florida. Abella Galleries online is a work in progress as we continually seek out new artists to feature and periodically add new designs from current artists. We would love to ultimately feature a variety of artists, be they jewelry designers, painters, photographers, sculptors, fashion designers, or artists of any other medium who have beautiful work that they would like to share with others. Eventually, Abella Galleries also hopes to expand internationally by exhibiting the works of artists from Mexico, China, and beyond. Feel free to contact us at
